Baptism

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM AT GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH, BRAMPTON

The Sacrament of Baptism at Guardian Angels Parish is celebrated only for registered parish members.
One of the parents of the child must be at least a baptized Catholic and currently practicing the Catholic faith.

If you are not a registered member of Guardian Angels Parish but wish to have your child baptized at Guardian Angels Church, you will need to get a letter of permission from the parish priest of your home parish before submitting via email the required Baptism Registration documents to Guardian Angels Parish.
Please do not make any final arrangements (i.e., reception, flights of baptism attendees, etc.) before the Parish Priest confirms your child's Baptism date during the parents' interview.

Baptisms are held every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month after the 12:00 noon Mass. 


Please carefully read and follow the procedure below:

  1. REGISTER WITH OUR PARISH only if you are
    1. A practicing Catholic and
    2. live in the L7A postal code area but have not yet registered with our parish,
    1. CLICK HERE to register to be a parishioner.
    2. Settle into the parish and attend Mass regularly.
    3. After three months from the date of registering with the parish, refer to the Baptism information below and submit the Baptism Registration Form with the required supporting documents.
      Please do NOT submit earlier than 3 months.

  1. CHOOSING THE GODPARENTS/CHRISTIAN WITNESS
    • Only a maximum of two people as godparent/christian witness following only one of the combinations below :
      - 2 (two) persons as Catholic godparents (one male and one female) OR
      - 1 (one) person only as  Catholic godparent (male or female) OR
      - 1 (one) person Catholic godparent and 1 Christian witness

    • Godparent Eligibility.  Must fulfill the following requirements:
      • Canon law 872: A Godparent supports the parents in the Catholic upbringing of the child and helps the baptized child lead a Christian life in keeping with the baptism and to fulfill faithfully the obligations inherent in it.
      • Canon law 873: There is to be only one male godparent and one female godparent or one of each
        • In total, you may have a maximum of only TWO Catholic godparents (one male and one female) with no legal responsibility for the child. 
        • Only Catholics can be godparents and it is necessary to have at least one godparent
      • Canon law 874 §1: To be permitted to take on the function of a godparent, a person must:
        • Be designated by the parents or by the one to be baptized or in their absence by the Parish Priest and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function
        • Be t least 16 years of age 
        • Be a Catholic who is fully initiated in the Catholic Church (meaning, has received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation) 
        • Be in good standing with the Catholic Church (meaning, a practicing Catholic and leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on)
        • Not the father or mother of the one to be baptized
    • Christian Witness Requirements:
      • Canon law 874 §2: A non-Catholic Christian can be chosen as a "Christian Witness" only in place of one Catholic godparent and is NOT to participate except together with a Catholic godparent provided he/she is

      3. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Email the following documents to guardianangelsbr@archtoronto.org only after at least 3 months of being a registered member of the parish.   

    • CLICK HERE to access the BAPTISM REGISTRATION FORM. Please download the form and email the completed form
    • Copy of child's Birth Certificate showing the child's legal name and both the name of the child's parents
    • Copy of either Parent's Catholic Baptism Certificate
    • All documents must be in English. If document(s) is in a language other than English, it must be translated to English by a certified translator.
    • We reserve the right to request to see the original of the required supporting documents

     4.  BAPTISM INTERVIEW:

    • The parish office will contact you to schedule your Baptism interview.
      The parish office staff needs to review the required documents. PLEASE DO NOT MEET THE PARISH PRIEST WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT SET BY THE PARISH OFFICE
    • Please do not make any final arrangements (i.e., reception, etc.) before the Parish Priest confirms your child's Baptism date during the Baptism interview.
