DETAILS & REQUIREMENTS

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
AT GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH

         1. Online Registration Form for catechism classes
          Second and last extension to register is by 10:00 PM on  Thursday, October 19, 2023

2. Required supporting documents

    • If Baptized Catholic:
      • Catholic Baptism Certificate 
      • First Holy Communion Certificate
    • If Baptized non-Catholic (with valid baptism)
      • Non-Catholic Baptism Certificate
      • Profession of Faith Certificate (done by the Catholic parent on behalf of the child)
      • Catholic First Holy Communion Certificate

All documents must be in English. Otherwise, the documents must be translated to English by a certified translator.

3. Mandatory catechism classes

      • Mandatory for children in grade 7 or older including those in our parish schools
      • Catechism classes are provided by the Parish Sacramental Preparation Ministry
      • Parish schools will no longer offer catechism classes in preparation for these Sacraments
      • SCHEDULE of CATECHISM CLASSES
        Date:    Saturdays in 2023: Oct 21 & 28, Nov 4, 11, 18 & 25 and
                     Saturdays in 2024: Jan 13, 20 & 27, Feb 3 & 24, Mar 2 & 23
        Time:           3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
        Venue:         Guardian Angels Parish Hall

4. Confirmation Sponsor 
    Parents and Sponsors, please note:

REQUIREMENTS:

                          a. ELIGIBILITY OF CONFIRMATION SPONSOR:

        • Canon 892: Insofar as possible, there is to be a sponsor for the person to be confirmed; the sponsor is to take care that the confirmed person behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations inherent in this sacrament.
        • Canon 893 §1: To perform the function of sponsor, a person must fulfill the conditions mentioned in canon 874 §1.
        • Canon 874 §1:  To be permitted to take on the funciton of sponsor, a person must:

- be designated by the candidate for Confirmation or by the parents or whoever stands in their place, or by the parish priest or the minister; 
- at least 16 years of age
- he/she has been fully initiated in the Catholic Church (received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation)
- in good standing with the Catholic Church; live a life of faith which befits the role to be undertaken; not under canonical penalty
- not the father or mother of the one to be confirmed

        • Attends Sunday Mass regularly;
        • Must be present at the Confirmation Mass. Note: Proxy is not allowed

                        b. CONFIRMATION SPONSOR DECLARATION FORM

        • DEADLINE for submitting the signed Confirmation Sponsor Declaration Form: Before October 6, 2023
        • Email the completed form to the parent of the child

5. Parish registration of parents if living within the L7A area
